Alpha Boys' School

Since 1890, and in addition to providing a general education and training in trades such as agriculture, printing, tailoring and woodworking, Alpha’s music program has produced some of the world’s most respected and skilled musicians. Jazz men like Dizzy Reece and Jo Jo Harriot as well as ska pioneers Don Drummond, Lester Sterling, Tommy McCook and Cedric Brooks (founding members of the Skatalites) not to mention reggae singer Leroy Smart and drummer Leroy Wallace, among many others, have all called Alpha their home at various points in their development.

Alpha Boys' School Radio is a celebration of the legacy established by the Kingston, Jamaica-based school responsible for the education and musical development of Jamaica's premiere jazz, ska, reggae and dancehall pioneers.

Heather Augustyn has written several books on Ska.

Her latest work, a biography of Skatalites founding member Don Drummond, is achieving critical acclaim.


Legends of Ska

During the summer of 2002, the original stars of Ska gathered for a special weekend of concerts featuring music, memories and fun.The Legends Of Ska concerts occurred on July 12-13, 2002 at the Palais Royale Ballroom on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto, Canada. The event was produced by Steady Rock Productions LLC in the United States and filmed in Hi-Definition for an upcoming movie and soundtrack release.
